How We’re Supporting Our Grantees During COVID-19

We’re in unprecedented and uncertain times. The impact from the COVID-19 global pandemic will likely be felt months, and even years from now. This news update is to share how we’re supporting our grantee partners now and in the future.

This month we granted $2,300 in emergency funding to support relief efforts and online programming for three grantee partners:

Black Swan Academy (2017 grantee partner) is leading the DC Mutual Aid Network in Wards 7 and 8. Our $1,000 donation will help support the network, which is a collection of organizations and individuals who pool resources for those in need. Read more here. Monetary donations can be made via Venmo/Cashapp at $blackswanacademy. To donate online, visit www.blackswanacademy.org/donate.

Chess Girls (2015 grantee partner) received a $300 grant to purchase a video conference account and online learning materials to help the organization transition to virtual programming. To donate online, visit https://chessgirlsdc.org/donations.

Dreaming Out Loud (2014 grantee partner) has partnered with local businesses and organizations to distribute meals to DC residents in under served neighborhoods. Our $1,000 donation will support their ongoing efforts, such as here and here. To donate online, visit https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/doldc.

In the coming months, our giving circle members will discuss ways to provide financial and in-kind support for all our grantee partners and the local Black-led nonprofit community impacted by the pandemic. We will share ways you can help as well.

Stay home, stay safe, and be well.
